Functional Medicine
Discover how to understand your body's signals, interpret your symptoms, and confidently implement changes for optimal health and well-being.
What makes our take on Functional Medicine different?
“A pill for every ill” was initially a statement people would make about our conventional health care system. Unfortunately, this technique seems to be repeating in other functional medicine practices as well. Our goal is not to put you on 20+ supplements but tell you it’s okay “because they’re natural”.
Your body is capable of healing. Our goal is to educate you on how to support your body and make healing happen. Supplements may be a small part of that, but they certainly are not the only part.
Your food is medicine. Movement is medicine. Your life is your medicine!
There are no “cookie cutter” protocols here. We do not require every patient to complete every functional lab under the sun, but instead start with a thorough intake form to asses what next steps may be best for you. When we analyze labs, we identify trends and talk about ways to optimize through all facets of life. Every protocol is completely individualized to each specific client.
Are you properly fueling your body? Is your current workout routine helping you, hurting you, or completely plateaued ? Is stress undoing all of your health care efforts?
Our goal is not to just throw a “band-aid” on your concerns and send you on your way. Our goal is to educate you, support you, and empower you to truly Embody Wellness.
How is functional medicine different from conventional medicine?
Conventional medicine specializes in diagnosing disease, but it doesn’t often go the next step to ask WHY it may have happened or better yet, catch something before serious intervention is required. Where functional medicine shines is by identifying issues before they become serious problems or supporting people who may have gotten a diagnosis, tried an intervention, and still don’t feel their best.
The “normal” ranges in conventional medicine may help determine there is no severe disease, but they can also be the reason why people get stuck on the hamster wheel of feeling like junk only to be told “their labs are normal.” Unfortunately, some people get stuck on this hamster wheel until serious intervention may be required, even years later.
Another area where functional medicine can bring more clarity is through functional lab testing. Functional labs can give us an insight to your health at the next level and often can be done in the comfort of your own home. Through lab testing we can see things such as hormone health or possible imbalances, gut health/microbiome, toxicity exposure or detoxification issues, food allergies and sensitivities, and much more.
